Ysgol Maes Owen

Prem Aware School Award

We are very proud to have been awarded the 'Prem Aware School' status by the Smallest Things Charity. As a school we are committed to improving wellbeing and supporting our learners at every step of their way whilst here at Ysgol Maes Owen. Our staff have embraced the training and this will impact our every day practices. It has strengthened our crucial role in supporting and making a difference to all our children including the lives of children born prematurely. Through the charity's training we have learnt that on average two to three children in every classroom may have been born early and may experience difficulties with education and learning and will need some support both practically and emotionally. As a Prem Aware School, at Ysgol Maes Owen we are proud to: raise awareness and understanding of the impact and lasting effects of prematurity on development, education and learning. reassure parents, carers and families that we are aware of and compassionate to the potential needs of children born preterm. support early identification and timely support, recognise and meet the specific learning needs of children born prematurely, provide both emotional and practical support and improve long-term outcomes for children born prematurely whilst on their education journey. If there is anything you would like to discuss or any information you would like to share with us about this please contact the school office to arrange to see or speak to Mrs O’Connor.
